His Majesty King Abdullah II received the United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken for a meeting attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein at Al Husseiniya Palace, where he stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.

His Majesty warned of the consequences of a military operation in Rafah, stressing that the disastrous effects of the ongoing war in Gaza could expand to include areas in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and the entire region.

His Majesty underscored the importance of supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which he described as a lifeline for about two million Palestinians in Gaza, in addition to providing essential services to Palestinian refugees in its areas of operation.

He reaffirmed the crucial role of the United States in creating a political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, which he said is the only way to ensure the security of Palestinians, “Israelis”, and the entire region.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and the US Ambassador to Amman, Yael Lambert.

Safadi met earlier on Tuesday the United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken, continuing the discussions held during the six-way Arab ministerial consultation meeting with the United States in Riyadh yesterday, Monday.

In the context of the Arab and Islamic effort to achieve a complete ceasefire in Gaza, the two ministers discussed efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and prevent any Israeli Occupation attack on the southern border city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip.
